City Council approves $17M fire department funding and facility study

Taunton City Council is making significant strides in enhancing public safety as it reviews the proposed budget for the fire department, which includes a request for $17 million. This funding aims to bolster the department's capabilities, including the purchase of ballistic protection gear for firefighters and the implementation of new safety standards in collaboration with the mayor's office.

During the budget hearing on April 24, 2024, council members highlighted the city's commitment to public safety, noting that over the past two years, more than $3 million has been allocated for new fire trucks and equipment, although these vehicles have yet to be delivered.
