Topanga leaders address small business grants and COVID-19 relief resources

In a recent Topanga Town Council meeting, the focus was on securing vital financial support for local businesses and landlords affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Sofia highlighted several key resources available to the community, including the reopening of the LA County Rent Relief program on May 20, aimed at assisting landlords with tenants who owe back rent. Additionally, an economic mobility initiative is being developed to provide tailored support for small business owners, entrepreneurs, and nonprofits, offering technical assistance and access to capital.

Another significant announcement was the introduction of a commercial acquisition fund, which will provide grants ranging from $500,000 to $2 million for nonprofits to acquire vacant properties impacted by the pandemic. This initiative aims to revitalize areas hit hardest by COVID-19.

The discussion also touched on the potential for Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) for local businesses. Council members are optimistic about qualifying for these loans, as they meet the criteria of having at least five businesses that experienced substantial economic impact.
