Scott County Park gears up to purchase new golf carts amidst rising demand

Scott County officials are considering a significant investment in new golf carts for the local park, aiming to enhance the golfing experience and boost revenue. During a recent government meeting, a proposal was presented to purchase club cars currently available on-site, utilizing interest accrued from the Local Government Investment Pool (LGIP) to fund the purchase.

The discussion highlighted that the county has received approximately $38,000 in unbudgeted interest through February, with additional funds expected from March and April. This financial cushion could allow the county to buy the nine-year-old golf carts outright, which are in need of maintenance that could cost around $3,000. Officials noted that delaying the purchase could result in a decrease in trade-in value as the carts age further.

To support this investment, the county is also considering raising golf cart rental rates. Current rates are $14 for nine holes and $25 for eighteen holes, with a proposed increase to $16 and $28, respectively. This adjustment could generate an additional $5,000 in revenue, which is crucial as the golf course has historically brought in about $70,000 over the past two years and is on track to exceed that this year.

The proposal received unanimous support from the officials present, emphasizing the importance of maintaining quality equipment to attract more visitors to the park. The new carts, which are gas-powered, are expected to provide a better experience for golfers, particularly those who may struggle with the park's hilly terrain.

As the county moves forward with this initiative, officials are optimistic that the investment will not only improve the golfing experience but also enhance overall park usage and revenue generation.
