Scott County approves enterprise zone incentives supporting Tempur Sealy and BFP expansions

Scott County's economic growth took center stage during the Board of Supervisors meeting on May 7, 2024, as officials highlighted the success of the county's enterprise zone program. Established in 1999, the enterprise zone has spurred significant business expansions, particularly in manufacturing, along key routes from Duffield to Weber City.

The meeting revealed that Tempur Sealy and BFP Incorporated have both benefited from substantial tax grants due to their expansions. Tempur Sealy qualified for a machine and tool tax grant and a real estate tax grant totaling over $83,000, while BFP received grants amounting to approximately $67,000. These incentives are designed to encourage investment in Scott County, with officials noting that the county's manufacturing sector contributes over a million dollars in taxes annually.

Economic development efforts have led to impressive figures, including $114 million in private investment in Duffield alone. The county has also seen a rise in per capita income, now at over $26,000, and a low unemployment rate of 3%. The Board emphasized the importance of retaining and attracting businesses, with plans for further development at the Riverside site aimed at creating a mixed-use area that combines retail, light industrial, and residential spaces.
