Mason County Road Crew completes 95-mile cleanup with inmate labor

The Mason County Fiscal Court held its regular meeting on April 9, 2024, where several community initiatives and updates were discussed. Key topics included local cleanup efforts, inmate training programs, and educational opportunities for inmates.

One significant focus was the Mason County Food Bank and the Licking Valley Commodities, highlighting ongoing support for local food security. The court also addressed the Germantown ballpark spring cleanup and efforts to manage roadside litter throughout the county.

In terms of community service, the state highway inmate road crew logged 96.5 hours, covering 959 miles across Fleming, Lewis, and Mason Counties. Additionally, a county road crew was able to clean 95 miles over two days last month, showcasing the commitment to maintaining local infrastructure.

Training for law enforcement was another important topic. Sergeants James Limble and Tara Lennox participated in virtual reality (VR) training in Frankfurt, which is now available for local law enforcement agencies. This training will enhance the capabilities of local officers and is set to be offered at their facility in June.

The meeting also reported on educational initiatives for inmates, with seven individuals taking their GED tests. Furthermore, the high tunnel project saw the replacement of its plastic cover in March, with vegetable seeds already sown, indicating progress in agricultural efforts.

Lastly, the ankle monitoring program collected $575 in March, with three participants currently enrolled. These discussions reflect the court's ongoing commitment to community service, education, and public safety in Mason County.
