Middletown Township honors police officers for life-saving actions and years of service

Middletown Township's Board of Supervisors meeting on May 13, 2024, highlighted significant achievements within the local police department, showcasing commendations for exemplary service and honoring years of dedication from several officers.

Chief of Police Joseph Bartorelli led the recognition segment, commending three officers for their outstanding actions in critical situations. Sergeant Mark McLeod was honored for his life-saving intervention during a suicide crisis on January 10, 2024. His quick assessment and empathetic approach successfully de-escalated a potentially tragic situation, ensuring the individual received necessary mental health care.

Officer Dave Berry received commendation for his courageous response to a suicidal subject on March 28, 2024. Despite facing immediate danger, Berry's calm demeanor and effective communication led to the safe resolution of the incident, allowing for the individual’s transport to a hospital for treatment.

Additionally, Sergeant Steve Andrews was recognized for his teamwork with K9 Jester during a vehicle theft pursuit on February 18, 2024. Their coordinated efforts resulted in the apprehension of a suspect without injury, reflecting the high standards of law enforcement upheld by the department.

The meeting also celebrated milestones in service, with Lieutenant Steve Foreman recognized for 30 years, Sergeant Matthew Kreuss for 25 years, and Officer Mary Alicefelt for 25 years of dedicated service. Officer Derek Leonhauser and Officer Kevin Achenroe were acknowledged for their 20 years of service, with Achenroe unable to attend.

These commendations not only highlight the individual achievements of the officers but also underscore the commitment of the Middletown Township Police Department to community safety and support.
