Clay County Board proclaims November as Adoption Month to support local children

The Clay County Board of County Commissioners has officially proclaimed November as Adoption Month, emphasizing the importance of finding permanent homes for children in foster care. During the meeting on November 9, 2022, Commissioner Condon highlighted the need for loving families to support the county's youth, particularly those who are older or part of sibling groups.

The proclamation noted that 78 children in Clay County found forever homes in the previous fiscal year, yet 13 children currently remain in foster care, many of whom are siblings hoping to be adopted together. The board encouraged community involvement from businesses, schools, and faith-based organizations to help secure loving homes for every child, regardless of their background or challenges.

Elizabeth Franco, the new CEO of Kids First of Florida, attended the meeting alongside an adoptive family, Paul and Jacqueline Sapinski, and their children. Franco expressed gratitude for the community's support in raising awareness about adoption and the need for families to step forward.

The meeting also included the approval of previous meeting minutes, with no opposition noted. The discussions underscored the county's commitment to addressing the needs of its most vulnerable residents and fostering a supportive environment for children in need of families.
