Alpine School District celebrates 40 years of successful gifted and talented programs

Sago Lily Elementary School is celebrating 40 years of its gifted and talented programs, a milestone that highlights the commitment of the Alpine School District to provide specialized education for high-achieving students. Board President Sarah Hacken reflected on the program's origins, noting that it began at a time when gifted services were scarce. Her initiative to establish these programs was met with enthusiasm from the district, leading to the formation of committees and extensive research that laid the groundwork for what has now become a robust system of nine programs across secondary schools.

The gifted programs aim to foster joy, enthusiasm, and friendship among students, ensuring that each child can achieve a year’s progress in a year’s time. Both students expressed excitement about continuing their advanced studies in junior high, showcasing the program's lasting impact on their educational journeys.
