Laredo ISD honors Corporal Liz Edwards for military service and autism advocacy

Laredo Independent School District (LISD) celebrated significant achievements and honored community members during its regular board meeting on April 18, 2024. A highlight of the evening was the recognition of Corporal Liz Edwards for her service in the U.S. Marines, where she served from 2006 to 2008. The board presented her with a plaque acknowledging her valor and dedication, emphasizing her role as a role model for students and the community.

The meeting began with heartfelt remarks from a parent who shared their pride in their child's progress in overcoming challenges related to autism. The parent expressed gratitude to local organizations and individuals, particularly highlighting the support received from Miss Octonia, which has been instrumental in their journey.

Following the recognition of Corporal Edwards, the board acknowledged several student achievements, including winners of the Go to Vote Democracy SA Contest, April's Students of the Month, and various outstanding teams and individuals from LISD. These recognitions included an award-winning Mariachi band, a state champion robotics team, and students who are future medical professionals and West Point cadets.

The meeting also featured video highlights showcasing the Webb County Coalition's Go to Vote Democracy essay contest, the Nixon High School one-act play, and an autism awareness event, further illustrating the district's commitment to celebrating student accomplishments and community engagement.
