Compton's Table launches free programs for queer youth and legal name change assistance

Public engagement is on the rise in Erie, PA, as city leaders announce a series of upcoming community meetings aimed at addressing local concerns. During the City Council meeting on March 20, 2024, officials emphasized the importance of citizen participation in discussions about pressing issues facing the community.

The initiative, described as "public bathroom meetings," invites residents aged 18 and older to join in and share their thoughts. City officials assured that details about the meetings will be made available on the city’s website, encouraging interested individuals to register by providing their contact information to the clerk's office. “If you have a positive attitude and will work through all of the large concerns that are out there, please get interested,” one council member urged.

In addition to the community meetings, the council highlighted various local programs aimed at supporting vulnerable populations. Tyler, a representative from Compton's Table, shared details about two initiatives: the True North program for queer youth and a name change clinic for transgender and gender nonconforming individuals. Both programs aim to provide essential life skills and legal assistance, addressing significant barriers faced by these communities.

The meeting also touched on the recent Saint Patrick's Day parade, which was praised for its turnout and festive atmosphere, as well as upcoming events like the 12th Street Reimagine project meeting scheduled for March 27.
