Nueces County residents demand urgent flood relief after homes inundated twice in six weeks

Daniel Zamora, a long-time resident of the Valley View Subdivision, highlighted the alarming frequency of flooding in his home, which had never experienced such issues until recent heavy rains. He pointed to inadequate drainage infrastructure, specifically the replacement of a large drainage pipe with smaller ones, which has exacerbated flooding problems. Zamora emphasized the need for better communication and planning between Nueces County, the city of Corpus Christi, and the Texas Department of Transportation to address these critical drainage issues.

Patricia Galloway, another resident from County Road 52 B, shared her harrowing experience of flooding, describing how her home was inundated with water not once, but twice within weeks. Galloway expressed deep concern over the declining value of her property, which she feared could drop by as much as 75% due to the flooding. She urged the county to take immediate action to prevent further damage and protect residents' homes.

Roger Powell, who has lived in the area for nearly five decades, echoed these sentiments, recounting his own struggles with flooding that has worsened over the years. He criticized past inaction from county officials and called for a collaborative effort involving multiple agencies to find a solution. Powell suggested the formation of a flood commission, similar to one in Sinton, which successfully addressed similar issues through a small tax increase.

The meeting underscored a growing urgency among residents for effective flood management strategies, as they face the devastating impacts of repeated flooding.
