Provo plans major upgrades to popular trail system

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the ongoing development of transportation infrastructure in Provo, Utah, highlighting the importance of the Provo River Trail and the need for improvements to local roadways. The Provo River Trail, a significant recreational asset for Utah County, attracts over 200,000 users annually, with discussions centered on enhancing access and safety through a critical bottleneck area.

Officials noted that the trail's popularity has surged, with a reported 23% increase in usage over the past year. This uptick reflects a broader trend in active transportation, with additional data indicating that over 100,000 users cross a specific bridge annually. The meeting included a detailed analysis of user demographics, revealing a near-even split between male and female users, with a slight majority of male participants.

The conversation also touched on the city's transportation master plan, which has been in place since 1977. Plans to upgrade roadways, particularly the arterial roads connecting Geneva Road to 7 East, were discussed.
