City approves return of Memorial Day parade after three years

In a recent city council meeting, officials unanimously approved several key initiatives aimed at enhancing community engagement and local services.

The council voted to extend the contract for veil estate services at Libby Hill Business Park with Dennis Wheelock of Magnuson Balfour for another year. The decision followed a single proposal submission, which was praised for its quality. City Manager Andy Carlton noted that the contract allows for a potential one-year extension without the need for a new request for proposals (RFP).

In a move to support local youth, the council also approved a 5K fundraiser organized by the Gardner Area High School National Honor Society, scheduled for March 4, 2023. The event will be held with waived fees, reflecting the council's commitment to supporting educational initiatives.

Additionally, the council celebrated the return of the Memorial Day Parade, which has not been held for three years. This year, the event will be hosted by the Smith Wylie American Legion, the Gardner Elk, and the Gardner Eagles, marking a collaborative effort among local organizations. The council expressed enthusiasm for the parade, emphasizing its importance in honoring veterans and fostering community spirit.

Lastly, the council renewed the retail medical cannabis store license for Healing Community Medco, following a public hearing that revealed no issues from department reviews.
