Community rallies for vital fire and EMS funding

During a recent community meeting, Mark Schaeffer, chairman of the capital campaign, emphasized the ongoing need for financial support for the Hampstead Volunteer Fire Company, which has been serving the community for over a century. Schaeffer highlighted that while local government assistance is appreciated, the majority of funding comes from community fundraising efforts.

He pointed out the necessity of maintaining and replacing essential firefighting equipment, noting that the fire engine and ladder truck are due for replacement, with costs estimated at $1 million and $1.5 million, respectively. Schaeffer urged community members to participate in fundraising activities, including upcoming events like the carnival, to ensure the fire department can continue to operate safely and effectively.

In a somber moment, Schaeffer acknowledged the passing of former state delegate Boyle Niman, mentioning that the state flag was at half-staff in his honor. He also shared updates on the new building, including the installation of plaques recognizing contributions from community members and families, as well as a refurbished bell from 1900.

Cole Brown, chairman of the building committee, encouraged community involvement and membership in the fire company, reiterating the importance of local support in sustaining their volunteer services. The meeting underscored the critical role of community engagement in maintaining vital emergency services in Hampstead.
