Fire Department Unveils State of the Art New Station

A new state-of-the-art fire station has officially opened in Hampstead, marking a significant upgrade from its predecessor, which was built in 1975 and decommissioned on April 4, 2023. The new facility, completed in just over a year, spans 17,863 square feet and features advanced operational enhancements designed to improve safety and efficiency for firefighters and emergency medical services.

Chief Matt Hartman highlighted the emotional connection many community members have with the old station, noting that it served as a gathering place for events and personal milestones. The new station aims to replicate that sense of community while providing modern amenities that support the operational needs of the fire department.

Key improvements include larger apparatus bay doors, a sophisticated learning system with digital displays, and industrial hygiene safeguards to protect personnel from hazardous byproducts associated with firefighting. The facility is equipped with an automatic fan system for air quality control, a dedicated decontamination area, and a living space designed to minimize contamination risks.

The upgraded emergency generator can sustain power for 48 hours, ensuring the station remains operational during storms. Chief Hartman expressed hope that the new amenities would encourage firefighters to spend more time at the station, fostering camaraderie and enhancing response times to emergencies.

The project was overseen by Cole Brown, who was recognized for his dedication, along with the support staff who contributed to the station's development. The chief also thanked community members and local businesses for their contributions to the capital campaign that made the new facility possible.

Following the opening ceremony, attendees were invited to tour the new station and learn about its features from the fire department members.
