Honoring a hero lost in the battle of Iwo Jima

Loudermilk's legacy is further underscored by his family's military history; he was the stepson of Ethel Loudermilk, who also lost her son, James Ellis Loudermilk, in the Vietnam War. The meeting also touched on a touching personal anecdote, recounting how, 50 years after his death, Loudermilk's stepmother received a Mother's Day card from her marine son, who traveled 18 miles to honor her at a church service.
