Walpole High School celebrates historic track team victories

In a recent government meeting, the Walpole High School track team was celebrated for their historic achievements, including winning the Herget title and the Division 3 state championship for the first time in school history. The team, praised for their selflessness and teamwork, excelled particularly in relay events, showcasing a collective effort rather than individual accolades.

Committee members expressed their admiration, highlighting the significance of the team's accomplishments and the records they set throughout the season. Miss Cyric noted the excitement surrounding the team's progress, which was frequently shared on social media, while Miss Galvin emphasized the importance of teamwork in track, often perceived as an individual sport. The committee members acknowledged the positive impact these experiences would have on the students' futures, both in college applications and job prospects.

In addition to celebrating their past successes, the committee approved an out-of-state field trip request for the track team to compete at the University of New Hampshire, waiving the usual 30-day notice requirement to allow the students to participate in upcoming competitions.

The meeting also featured a report from student representative James Pady, who provided updates on school events, including the completion of MCAS testing, the recent graduation ceremony, and upcoming activities such as a semiformal dance for freshmen and an open house for Byrd Middle School before its demolition.
