Firefighters honored for life-saving rescues and teamwork

In a recent government meeting, several commendations were awarded to local fire and rescue teams for their exemplary service in life-saving situations. The meeting highlighted three significant incidents where first responders demonstrated exceptional teamwork and skill.

On April 16, 2023, Engine 16 and EMS responded to a critical call in Warrington, where a woman was found unresponsive. The Engine 16 crew, equipped with a paramedic, initiated CPR immediately upon arrival. Acting Battalion Chief Keith Chapman assisted in providing advanced life-saving interventions. The patient remained in cardiac arrest during transport but regained a pulse and began breathing on her own en route to the hospital. For their efforts, Engine 16, led by Lieutenant Paramedic Tom Schwartz, received a company citation with ribbon.

Another notable incident occurred on April 28, 2023, when a water rescue was conducted on Pensacola Beach. With the assistance of beach lifeguards, four individuals were rescued from rough waters. The proficiency of the crews and lifeguards was credited for the successful operation. Engine 13, led by Lieutenant Paramedic Guy Meredith, along with other responders, were recognized with a company citation for their life-saving actions.

Lastly, on June 8, 2023, first responders were called to a tennis court on Perdido Key for a cardiac arrest case. Ladder 19 began CPR as a basic life support unit, while Engine 8, led by Lieutenant Paramedic Justin Markham, quickly mobilized to provide advanced support. Their coordinated efforts resulted in effective care for the patient, earning them a company citation with ribbon.

These incidents underscore the critical role of local fire and rescue teams in emergency situations, showcasing their dedication and training in saving lives.
