City Council approves $1M contract for body cameras and TASERs to enhance police safety

Chicopee's City Finance Committee made significant strides towards enhancing public safety during their meeting on December 9, 2024, by approving a comprehensive technology package for the police department. Sergeant Kuchar outlined that once the contract is signed, the delivery of products is expected within 30 to 45 days, with training and implementation set to begin shortly thereafter. The goal is to have the new systems operational by June 2025, allowing for a seamless integration into the existing police operations.

The committee emphasized the urgency of finalizing the agreement before the end of the year to avoid increased costs associated with the technology.
