Residents demand action as dangerous intersections lead to repeated car crashes

Chicopee City officials are addressing ongoing safety concerns at several hazardous intersections following a recent meeting of the HR & Public Safety Committee. Residents have reported a troubling pattern of accidents, particularly at the intersections of Dale and Roth, Hamill and St. Ange, and Fair and Dale.

At the meeting, community members highlighted the severe impact of reckless driving in these areas. One resident described how their home was damaged when three cars lost control and crashed into their property. Another noted that the fence of a nearby house has been crushed multiple times over the years, underscoring the persistent danger at these intersections.

The intersection of Hamill and St. Ange has been a particular hotspot, with dozens of accidents reported over the past 36 years. Residents believe that drivers often mistake it for a shortcut to Fair, leading to dangerous situations. Additionally, the intersection of Fair and Dale has been identified as a major contributor to traffic backups and accidents.

City officials are now considering measures to enhance safety at these critical points, aiming to reduce the risk of further incidents and protect residents. The discussions reflect a growing urgency to address these long-standing issues and improve overall public safety in Chicopee.
