Apopka approves Juneteenth Freedom Day Parade set for June 15th 2024

The City of Apopka Development Review Committee (DRC) convened on May 29, 2024, to discuss several key community events and development proposals, with a focus on enhancing local engagement and infrastructure.

One of the most notable discussions centered around the upcoming Juneteenth Freedom Day Parade, organized by Transform Outreach. Scheduled for June 15, 2024, from 12 PM to 3 PM, the parade will begin at the VFW and conclude at the Billy Dean Community Center. The event is expected to draw around 500 attendees, with plans to close several streets, including Central Avenue and 10th Street, to accommodate the festivities. Committee members raised concerns about parking and logistics, particularly regarding the potential need for space for floats, although it was clarified that the parade would primarily feature participants walking and waving signs. The DRC approved the event, emphasizing the importance of ensuring adequate parking and safety measures.

In addition to the parade, the committee reviewed the annexation proposal for Chandler Road Properties. Jonathan Hules, representing the applicant, addressed the committee, indicating that there were no outstanding comments or concerns from the DRC regarding the project.
