During a recent government meeting, Mister Schatz presented an initiative to expand the science curriculum by introducing honors courses for middle school students in the upcoming academic year. The proposal includes the addition of honors classes for 7th and 8th grade science, as well as a 7th grade honors world history course.
Mister Schatz highlighted the strong interest in these courses, noting that 46 students have already signed up for the 7th grade world history honors class. Additionally, there are 31 students enrolled for the 7th grade science honors course, which is already at full capacity, while 46 students have registered for the 8th grade science honors class.
The board's approval is crucial for the implementation of these programs, which aim to enhance educational opportunities for students. Looking ahead, Mister Schatz indicated that if the demand continues, he would consider proposing honors courses for 9th, 10th, and 11th grades in subjects such as earth science, biology, and chemistry in the future.
