During a recent government meeting, the Hampstead Town Council adopted several key ordinances and resolutions, including the fiscal year 2025 tax levy and budget. Ordinance 552, which pertains to the tax levy, was unanimously approved following a detailed budget workshop that, despite its thoroughness, attracted minimal public attendance. Council members expressed their familiarity with the budget, which was presented in an extensive Excel format.
The council also adopted Ordinance 553, which outlines the town's budget for the period from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025. Additionally, Resolution 2024-02, which addresses an increase in water rates, was approved without opposition.
A significant discussion arose regarding Resolution 2024-03, which introduces a federal procurement policy necessary for securing approximately $20 million in reimbursements related to a PFAS project aimed at improving the town's water system. This resolution was also passed unanimously.
Public comments highlighted ongoing concerns from residents about large trucks, particularly car carriers, traversing East Mott Avenue, causing damage and traffic disruptions. Resident Karen Hoover voiced her frustrations over the situation, detailing how these trucks have created hazards and damaged property. The council acknowledged the issue and committed to addressing it, including potential signage to deter truck traffic on Mott Avenue.
The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude towards town staff for their efforts in preparing the budget and addressing community concerns. The council remains focused on enhancing public safety and maintaining effective communication with residents regarding ongoing issues.
