Community mourns sudden loss of beloved employee Vito Gallagher

In a somber start to this week’s government meeting, officials expressed their condolences for the sudden passing of Vito Gallagher, a new employee in the food services department of South Huntington. Gallagher, a long-time resident and Walt Whitman High School graduate, was remembered as a kind and gentle individual who would have made a positive impact on the nutrition team. He is survived by his wife, Kelly, a teaching assistant at Maplewood, and their daughter, Megan, a 2016 graduate of the same high school.

The community is invited to pay their respects during visitation hours on Saturday, August 31, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Jacobson's Funeral Home in Huntington Station. Officials urged everyone to keep the Gallagher family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Following the moment of silence in Gallagher's memory, the meeting proceeded with the adoption of the agenda, which included items postponed from a previous meeting. The council unanimously approved the agenda and moved on to financial matters, including bids and bills, which were also adopted without opposition.

In new business, the council discussed the approval of a travel allowance for the supervisor of transportation, with motions made and seconded to advance the proposal. The meeting highlighted both the community's grief and the ongoing administrative responsibilities of local government.
