Firefighters honored for heroic rescue of woman and dog

In a recent City Council meeting held on June 4, 2024, in Emeritus, Florida, Vice President Davis presided over the session in the absence of President Heffer, who is recovering from knee surgery. The meeting commenced with a pledge of allegiance and a motion to accept the agenda, which was unanimously approved by the council members present.

A highlight of the evening was the recognition of several firefighters who received prestigious awards for their exemplary service. Chief Bessler introduced the honorees, including Lieutenant Samuel Shea and Firefighter Caleb Diehl, who were awarded the Public Servant of the Year by the local VFW post for their heroic rescue of an elderly woman and her dog from a structure fire. Their quick actions and use of a thermal imaging camera were pivotal in saving both lives.

Additionally, Lieutenant Matthew Hare was recognized as the U.S. Congressional 12th District First Responder of the Year, an award presented by Congressman Gus Bilirakis' representative, David Habstein.
