During the Graysburg City Council meeting on May 20, 2024, the council recognized the heroic efforts of three police officers and a good Samaritan for their life-saving actions in two separate emergency situations.
Deputy Chief Jones highlighted the critical nature of police work, noting that officers often face unpredictable and life-threatening scenarios. The first incident involved Officers Eric Zukreski and Kenny Parcel, who responded to a report of an individual suffering from an asthma attack on April 7. Upon arrival, they found the victim unresponsive and not breathing. The officers immediately began administering CPR, which was crucial in stabilizing the individual until the fire division arrived.
In a second incident on April 16, Officer Troy Mugler responded to a report of an unconscious person at the Maple Street boat launch. He, along with Jeremy Culp, a Bowling Green resident, provided CPR to the victim, who was also found to be without a pulse. Their quick actions led to the patient regaining consciousness and being moved to a step-down unit shortly thereafter.
In recognition of their bravery and quick thinking, all four individuals were awarded the life-saving award by Chief Jones, Mayor Mackin, and City Administrator Fawcett. Although Mr. Culp was unable to attend the meeting, his contributions were acknowledged as vital to the successful outcomes of both emergencies. The council expressed gratitude for the exemplary service of the police division and the community's support in critical situations.
