The Monterey County Black Caucus is set to host the 5th annual Juneteenth Monterey County event on Saturday, June 15th, starting at 1 PM at Laguna Grande Park. This celebration honors the longest-running African American holiday and promises a day filled with community engagement, featuring local black businesses, food vendors, and speakers.
This year's event will be headlined by Oakland's own mister FAB, a renowned artist and community activist recognized for his contributions to hip hop and his impactful work in the community. Additionally, Hollywood icon Danny Glover will be in attendance, celebrated for his extensive acting career and activism.
The Juneteenth celebration will also honor Ron Johnson and Annalisa Mitchell with the Mister and Missus Juneteenth awards, recognizing their significant contributions to the community. Families can look forward to a variety of activities, including a dinosaur adventure kids zone, music, jump houses, and more, with free admission for all ages.
In related community news, CalFresh EBT and Sunbucks cardholders can double their purchasing power at local produce vendors, with special offers available at participating farmer's markets and La Princesa markets. The Seaside Farmers Market, held every Thursday from 3 to 7 PM, also provides free boxes of produce for residents of lower socioeconomic status on a first-come, first-served basis.
