Lila Smithhurst crowned Kids Baking Champion in Seguin celebration

In a heartfelt ceremony on June 4, 2024, the city of Seguin officially proclaimed the day as \"Lila Smithhurst Day\" in honor of the 12-year-old baking champion's remarkable achievements. Lila, who represented Texas on the Food Network's Kids Baking Championship, captured the title after winning four out of ten challenges, culminating in a stunning victory with her volcano-themed cake. Alongside the championship crown, she received a $25,000 prize and a feature in Food Network Magazine.

Mayor Donna Dodgen highlighted Lila's deep family roots in Seguin and her entrepreneurial spirit, noting that she launched Lila's Butterbomb Bakery at just nine years old. Lila's commitment to philanthropy was also recognized, as she raises funds for cancer research through her initiative, Baking Up a Cure, inspired by her mother's cancer journey.

During the ceremony, Lila expressed her gratitude for the support from her family and the Seguin community, emphasizing the importance of faith and the friendships she formed with fellow contestants. She acknowledged the challenges faced during the competition but celebrated the love and encouragement she received from her hometown.
