Mountain bike race triumphs despite muddy challenges

During a recent government meeting, members of the Lytle's Fork advisory board received updates on community events and future plans for outdoor recreation in Scott County. John Strom, president of the Kentucky Mountain Bike Association, reported on the inaugural mountain bike race held at the Lytle Sport property on May 18. Despite challenging muddy conditions, the event attracted around 70 participants, with 90% expressing a strong likelihood of returning for future races. Strom emphasized the positive community support and the economic impact of such events, noting that participants spent approximately $20 on food and $35-$40 on fuel during their visit.

Lori, another board member, echoed Strom's sentiments, highlighting the fun atmosphere despite the weather. She mentioned the presence of a film crew and an influencer at the event, which could enhance marketing efforts for the trails. The board discussed improvements for future events, including better access to trails, bathroom facilities, and garbage receptacles.

Additionally, the meeting touched on the Horsey 100 event, which drew 1,800 participants and generated significant economic benefits for the area. The board acknowledged the importance of community support from local services, including public safety, in making these events successful.

Future goals include enhancing accessibility on Stockdale Road, which is popular among hikers, and exploring options for paving to improve access for individuals with disabilities. The board encouraged community feedback and participation in upcoming meetings to continue developing the Lytle Fork Recreation Area as a key attraction for Scott County.
