During a recent meeting of the Virginia Board of Education, members celebrated the artistic talents of students from Henrico High School's Center for the Arts. The event featured a performance by the school's choral group, led by veteran director Morgan Day, who has been instrumental in music education for nearly two decades. Day, recognized as Henrico County's music educator of the year for 2020-2021, guided the students through two powerful musical selections: \"A Choice to Change the World,\" composed by Philip Kevin Johnson, and \"I Dream A World,\" based on a poem by Langston Hughes and arranged by Andre Thomas.
The performance was met with enthusiasm from board members, who expressed gratitude for the students' dedication and artistry. Principal Karen Castillo Rose and Center for the Arts Director Stephanie Poxton also commended the students for their hard work and focus, which brought the meaningful music to life.
Following the performance, the board transitioned into a closed session to discuss sensitive matters related to teacher licenses and legal consultations. This portion of the meeting focused on the denial, suspension, or revocation of teacher licenses, as well as legal advice pertinent to the board's considerations. The meeting underscored the board's commitment to both educational excellence and the integrity of the teaching profession in Virginia.
