City launches long-awaited Horizon Park development project

In a recent government meeting, officials moved forward with the award of a contract for the Horizon Park Development project to Stuckey Construction Company, valued at $136,000. This project, which has been in the works since public information meetings were held in 2019, is set to enhance the park significantly.

The development will include the construction of an open-air shelter equipped with restrooms and fitness equipment, as well as a splash pad and multi-use trails that will feature boardwalks. Additionally, plans for new playground equipment are slated for the following year. The project is expected to commence by the end of July or early August, following the completion of its design and the securing of a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) grant.

Despite the absence of public comments during the meeting, staff emphasized the long-awaited nature of the project, indicating a strong community interest in the improvements to Horizon Park. The motion to approve the contract was met with a brief discussion, signaling a positive step towards the park's revitalization.
