Residents rally against proposed housing development in quiet neighborhood

Residents of Northeast Clermont voiced their concerns during a recent government meeting regarding a proposed development on parcel 50, which could introduce three new housing units to their quiet neighborhood. The meeting highlighted the apprehensions of local homeowners about increased traffic and changes to the area’s aesthetic.

One resident, who has lived next to the empty lot for over 12 years, expressed worries that the new units would disrupt the tranquility that attracted families to the area, particularly those with special needs children. The resident emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe environment for children to play, noting that the cul-de-sac is currently a safe space for their son, who has mobility challenges.

Another neighbor, William Hong, echoed these sentiments, pointing out that the neighborhood has seen an influx of young families, with approximately 15 children under the age of 10 living nearby. He urged commissioners to consider the potential dangers of increased traffic, which could pose risks to children walking in the area.

Albert Chu, a long-time resident since 1976, also raised concerns about the impact of higher density housing on traffic patterns. He highlighted that the cul-de-sac has historically been a safe place for children to play, and he fears that adding more homes would lead to at least six additional vehicles, significantly increasing traffic.

The residents collectively urged the commissioners to take their concerns into account as they deliberate on the proposed development, emphasizing the need to preserve the neighborhood's character and safety for its youngest members.
