City approves new trolley stop to boost downtown transit

The Bright Transit advisory committee convened on July 10, approving modifications to the Stanton north and west loops of the downtown trolley system. A new transit stop will be added on Middlebrook Avenue, near the intersection with Moore Street, enhancing accessibility for residents of nearby multifamily developments. This stop is anticipated to be operational within a couple of months.

In another highlight, the city’s Environmental Programs division, commonly referred to as stormwater, received the inaugural Helen and Taylor Murphy Conservation Leadership in Government award from the Garden Club of Virginia. This recognition honors the department's significant contributions to conservation, particularly through the Gypsy Hill Park Stream restoration project. The Augusta Garden Club nominated the division for its efforts, which have garnered positive attention from the community.

As award recipients, city staff will attend the Garden Club of Virginia's conservation forum on November 7 in Martinsville, Virginia, where they will be celebrated for their achievements in environmental stewardship. The meeting concluded with an invitation for public comments, allowing citizens to voice their concerns and suggestions on various topics.
