Residents Rally Against Controversial Parking Lot Expansion Plan

Residents of Homer Glen voiced strong opposition during a recent government meeting regarding the proposed expansion of the Booth Orthodontics parking lot. Concerns were raised about potential environmental impacts, including flooding and pollution, particularly from residents living near the site.

One resident, who lives approximately 100 feet from the proposed expansion, expressed worries about how the project could affect their property and the surrounding community. They emphasized the importance of considering resident perspectives alongside business interests, urging the board to exercise discretion in their decision-making.

Another long-time resident, Don Bailey, reiterated these concerns, highlighting that the original plat from 1984 did not anticipate such changes and explicitly stated that the property should not be developed for the intended use. He pointed out the lack of updated studies on the potential water impact, noting that previous approvals for variances related to stormwater management indicated that further development could exacerbate flooding risks.

Bailey also referenced a 2012 ordinance that restricted development on the property, arguing that the need for multiple variances for a small parking lot raised red flags about the project's viability. He urged the board to carefully review the documentation provided, which included historical context and legal stipulations against further development.
