Home business proposal sparks debate over zoning regulations

In a recent government meeting, the Planning Commission reviewed a home occupation permit application submitted by Brandy Tiberias for her business, Tiberias Events LLC. The proposed business involves using a travel trailer for catering services at events such as weddings. The trailer would be parked at Tiberias' residence, with a spare bedroom designated as a home office.

The commission assessed the application against local zoning regulations, which permit home occupations as conditional uses in the CR 20,000 zone. Staff members confirmed that the trailer meets the required specifications, including a gross vehicle weight rating not exceeding 12,000 pounds.

A key condition for approval is that the trailer must not be parked within the designated 30-foot front setback of the property to avoid creating a commercial appearance in the neighborhood. Tiberias has indicated that her property has sufficient space to comply with this requirement, including the option to park the trailer in a garage located at the back of the property.

The commission unanimously recommended approval of the permit, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the setback condition to maintain the residential character of the area. No public hearing was held during this session, as the matter was classified as an administrative action.
