California Air Show Set to Dazzle with Thunderbirds and Blue Angels

The countdown has begun for the 43rd annual California International Air Show, set to take place on September 28 and 29, 2024, at Salinas Airport. This year’s event will feature the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds as the headline act, while preparations are already underway for the 2025 show, which will showcase the U.S. Navy Blue Angels on October 4 and 5.

Organizers expressed excitement over securing two prominent jet teams for consecutive years, a feat that enhances planning and sponsorship opportunities. The Thunderbirds are expected to draw large crowds, having performed at the event every two to three years, while the Blue Angels have a five-year gap between appearances due to high demand and competition from other air shows.

In addition to the Thunderbirds, this year’s lineup includes the Patriots Jet Team, a civilian formation team flying six L-39 aircraft, promising an exhilarating performance. The show will also feature a variety of civilian performers, including high-energy acts and ground displays, such as a popular jet car.

A special culinary event, the Mavericks Lounge, will kick off the festivities on Friday night, offering wine tasting, bourbon sampling, and a mini air show, culminating in a fireworks display.

For aviation enthusiasts, the show will also host several military aircraft, including a C-5 and C-17, both confirmed to land at Salinas Airport, along with two C-130s. This addition of heavy aircraft marks a significant enhancement compared to last year’s event, promising an exciting experience for attendees.
