University announces historic tuition rebate for students

In a recent government meeting, the Board of Visitors approved several resolutions and discussed significant updates from the Business Affairs and Audit Committee. The meeting commenced with a swift approval of resolutions presented by Jeannie, with no objections raised.

Tyler Lester, chair of the Business Affairs and Audit Committee, highlighted key outcomes from the university's fiscal year 2023 financial statement audit, which received an unmodified opinion from the auditor of public accounts. Lester also provided updates on various ongoing projects, including the Artis Center and Dalton Hall, as well as a review of the university's discretionary fund and IT audits. Notably, he emphasized the university's strategic budgeting and increased state support, which have enabled the committee to recommend a tuition rebate. This rebate effectively cancels out a previously approved 1.5% tuition increase, resulting in no net increase in tuition for students and families for the upcoming year.

This decision positions the university as a leader in affordability among educational institutions, with Lester noting that it may be the only institution to implement such a measure this year.
