Residents demand action on dock vandalism and road repairs

During a recent government meeting, residents voiced significant concerns regarding vandalism and maintenance issues related to private docks and local roads.

Dennis Conger, a lakefront property owner, reported ongoing vandalism at his dock, including damage to a protective sign he installed. He expressed frustration over unauthorized use of his dock, suggesting that the county consider allowing dock owners to install gates and locks to deter trespassers. Conger also proposed a system where individuals wishing to fish from private docks would need to notify the lake office in advance, although he acknowledged the challenges of implementing such a measure.

Deb Swartz, another lake resident, echoed Conger's concerns, highlighting incidents of vandalism and safety hazards associated with low water levels. She raised alarms about the potential liability issues for dock owners if someone were to get injured while using their docks, emphasizing the need for protective measures for both property owners and the county.

In addition to dock-related issues, Swartz criticized the poor condition of local roads, describing them as nearly impassable and suggesting that the county should provide gravel to assist residents in maintaining the roads. She noted the financial burden on homeowners who have attempted to repair the roads themselves.

The meeting underscored the community's urgent need for solutions to protect private property and improve infrastructure, as residents seek greater support from local government.
