Veterans housing project seeks $34 million funding boost

In a recent government meeting, Kappa Community Development Corporation presented plans for a significant veterans housing project in Arlington, New Jersey, with an estimated cost of $34 million. The proposed development, located near the World Harvest Christian Church on Westfield Avenue, aims to provide 112 housing units, including 84 one-bedroom apartments and 28 studio units.

Larry Chenault, representing the organization, highlighted the corporation's long-standing commitment to community development since its inception in 1969. He emphasized the importance of this project in serving veterans and the broader community. The funding strategy includes a $7 million net operating income (NOI) already secured, with additional financial backing anticipated from various institutions to complete the capital stack.

Architect Herb Scott discussed the project's alignment with opportunity zone incentives, which could attract investors by offering tax credits after a ten-year investment period. This financial structure is designed to encourage investment in the community and support sustainable development initiatives.

The meeting concluded with a call for questions from council members, indicating a collaborative approach to advancing the project. The initiative reflects a growing focus on addressing housing needs for veterans while fostering community development in the region.
