Minneapolis celebrates Oromo Festival 2024 with vibrant events

In a recent government meeting, officials expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming 2024 Oromo Festival, set to take place in the Twin Cities from July 27 to August 3, 2024. The festival, which celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Oromo people, is expected to draw an estimated 45,000 attendees, primarily refugees and asylees from the Oromia region of Ethiopia.

The resolution read during the meeting highlighted the festival's significance, noting that it will honor Oromo roots and commemorate the contributions of heroes from the community. The week-long event will feature a variety of activities, including a soccer tournament, the Oromia International Run, the Oromo Youth Conference, and the Oromo Economic Forum, among others. These gatherings aim to strengthen cultural bonds and promote diversity while educating attendees about Oromo traditions, music, dance, and cuisine.

City officials emphasized their commitment to welcoming both local and international guests, reinforcing the festival's role in fostering understanding and appreciation of Oromo culture. The mayor and city council officially celebrated the festival, aiming to amplify and support the Oromo community's cultural expression.
