Heroes of the Golf Course Save Life in Dramatic Rescue

In a heartfelt recognition ceremony, the Michigan City Park Board honored four individuals who played crucial roles in saving the life of Rick Boss, a golfer who collapsed during a routine game on June 28. Golf manager Marty Neiman recounted the dramatic events that unfolded when Boss lost consciousness on the tee box, prompting immediate action from fellow golfers and a retired emergency room nurse.

Neiman praised Chuck Krause and Dan Pischker for their swift administration of CPR, while Craig Dwight rushed to retrieve an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) from the pro shop. Nancy Doughty, the nurse, utilized the AED to revive Boss, who was later stabilized by paramedics after multiple shocks en route to the hospital. Remarkably, Boss returned home five days later, a testament to the quick thinking and teamwork of those present.

During the meeting, Neiman emphasized the importance of timely intervention in such emergencies, noting that survival rates drop significantly without immediate action. He presented tokens of appreciation to the heroes, highlighting their courage and readiness to act in a crisis.
