Firefighting innovation saves lives with new technology

In a recent government meeting, officials highlighted the successful implementation of a new fire suppression device that has been integrated into police vehicles in Heartland. The device, which costs $900 each, has garnered significant community support, with the Masonic Lodge subsidizing $600 per unit. Local fundraising efforts have raised enough money to purchase 22 units, totaling approximately $21,000.

Steve Ingram, secretary of the Newport Masonic Lodge, shared a compelling success story about the device's effectiveness. After being deployed by Sergeant Harrelson of the Newport substation, the device reportedly saved a home and its pets from a fire, demonstrating its life-saving potential. Ingram emphasized that the device does not deplete oxygen, making it safer for first responders to enter smoke-filled environments.

The meeting also featured a raffle during Woodbury Days, which raised additional funds for the purchase of more units. The council expressed gratitude for the community's contributions, recognizing the importance of equipping local law enforcement with advanced tools to enhance public safety.

Following the discussion on the fire suppression devices, the council moved on to routine matters, approving a consent agenda without any items being removed for further discussion. The meeting concluded with plans for two public hearings on upcoming projects, indicating ongoing community engagement and development initiatives.
