Community rallies to save school programs with donations

During a recent government meeting, Councilwoman Touquet highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the West Bonner County School District, particularly following the failure of a recent levy. To address a funding shortfall of $150,000 necessary to maintain essential programs such as sports, academic clubs, and the arts, the Spartan Booster Club has initiated a fundraising campaign. An anonymous donor has pledged to match up to $75,000 in donations, urging community members to contribute before the July 17 deadline.

Touquet expressed her personal connection to the district, noting her family ties and previous teaching experience there. She encouraged residents to support the Booster Club, which can be found online, to help secure the future of these vital programs.

Additionally, the meeting acknowledged the efforts of the Lions Club, which has been instrumental in organizing fireworks displays at City Beach. Council members praised their dedication and reminded attendees that proceeds from fireworks sales and raffle tickets would benefit the club's ongoing community initiatives.

The meeting also featured a presentation from Mandy Evans of the Better Together Animal Alliance, further emphasizing the community's commitment to various local causes.
