Local Business Plans Summer Fest Amid Permit Challenges

Southern Grace Accounting is set to host a summer festival featuring a bike show, cornhole tournament, and food trucks, although the decision on whether to serve alcohol remains undecided. Concerns were raised during a recent government meeting regarding the challenges of obtaining an alcohol permit for the event, particularly since it is a for-profit business. Officials noted that previous attempts to secure permits for similar events, such as the Lavender Festival, faced significant hurdles due to regulatory constraints.

In another agenda item, the board discussed a special exception request from Sean Spradlin for a detached dwelling unit at 12030 Appaloosa Drive, located in the Amelia States subdivision. The proposed unit aims to accommodate Spradlin's parents and will connect to existing well and septic systems, pending approval from the health department. Notably, the subdivision has active restrictive covenants that could impact the approval process, as they require a 75% homeowner vote to terminate after 30 years. The planning commission has recommended approval of the request, with a stipulation that the unit cannot be used as a rental property.
