Community rallies to fund new playground and splash pad

In a recent government meeting, officials announced plans to enhance community recreational facilities, including the installation of new fencing and a potential splash pad at a local complex. The fencing project is set to commence next week, contingent on the weather improving after a current heat wave, with hopes to open the area by mid-August.

Community engagement has been strong, with multiple requests for a splash pad, which will be considered as the next project following the fencing. Officials are actively seeking sponsorships to fund these initiatives and reported being close to their fundraising goal. A community member has pledged a $1,500 matching challenge, with only $400 remaining to reach the target.

To date, the project has received significant financial support, including an $11,000 contribution from the Friends of the Library and an additional $18,000 from various outside sources. Notably, a $10,000 donation from Dominion has allowed for the purchase of new playground equipment rather than repurposing existing swings.

Officials praised the efforts of the public works team, highlighting their ability to reallocate funds from other projects to ensure the community receives a high-quality playground. The collaborative effort has been met with enthusiasm from community members, who are eager to see the improvements come to fruition.
