City Council Approves Controversial Subdivision Plan

During a recent city council meeting, a proposal for a variance to subdivision regulations was presented by Eddie Verdon, representing Dr. Rick Ellis, the owner of a residential property at 2620 Bridal Road. The application seeks to subdivide the existing 23,681 square foot lot into two single-family dwelling lots, which would be 10,924 square feet and 12,757 square feet in size, respectively. Both proposed lots exceed the minimum size requirements and road frontage stipulated by city regulations.

The variance requests involve slight adjustments to the lot widths at the 30-foot building setback line, with a 1.49-foot reduction for Lot B and a 0.97-foot reduction for Lot A. Verdon emphasized that the proposed homes would comply with all zoning ordinances, including height restrictions and parking requirements, with each home featuring a two-car garage and ample on-site parking.

The planning staff and the planning commission have both recommended approval of the application, citing that the new lots would align with the character of the surrounding area and the city’s comprehensive plan for suburban development. Verdon noted that the redevelopment of this property is consistent with previous successful projects in the vicinity, which have contributed to the community's vitality over the past four decades.
