In a recent government meeting, plans for a significant development project were discussed, focusing on the establishment of a new logistics lab and accompanying facilities in Franklin. The proposal includes a lab, loading dock, parking facilities, and a cafe for employees, marking the first phase of what could evolve into a larger development. The project has received the necessary approval from the local business association, and the applicants were present to address any questions from the council.
Greg Prason, the design professional for the project, highlighted that the new facility will replace an existing assembly operation currently located in Oak Creek, which is expected to increase employment from approximately 50 to nearly 200 jobs. The previous tenant, a packaging company named Transpac, had vacated the building, allowing for this new venture by Yaskawa America, which currently employs around 1,200 individuals across various locations, including Illinois.
The council unanimously approved the site and building plans for the new logistics lab, which will add approximately 54,223 square feet to the existing facility. The meeting also touched on potential commercial and industrial developments in the area, with discussions about entering a closed session to deliberate on market competition and potential development agreements for properties at the southwest corner of South Oakwood Park Drive and West Ryan Road.
The approval of this project is seen as a positive step for the local economy, with officials expressing enthusiasm for the new jobs and business opportunities it will bring to the community.
