Residents Rally Against Controversial Zoning Change Proposal

Residents of Madison House condos on 6th Avenue voiced strong opposition during a recent government meeting regarding proposed zoning changes in their neighborhood. Jerry Ross, a long-time resident, expressed concerns about a potential rezone to commercial use, which he believes would lead to increased traffic and decreased property values. He highlighted the community's investment in their homes, noting that their properties have doubled in value since purchase.

Cindy Erwin, another resident, echoed Ross's sentiments, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the neighborhood's safety and reputation. She raised questions about the financial backing of the proposed changes, particularly regarding a 12-woman rehabilitation facility planned for a historic home across the street. Erwin stressed the need for transparency and due diligence in assessing the proposal.

Katie Northern, a local realtor and veteran, also opposed the rehabilitation facility, citing concerns about the influx of individuals and its potential impact on the predominantly older resident demographic. She warned that the facility could deter prospective buyers and negatively affect property values, urging the council to consider alternative locations for such facilities.
