Residents demand action on power outages before hurricane season

During a recent government meeting, residents of Creekside Park expressed their growing concerns regarding power outages and the relationship between The Woodlands Township and CenterPoint Energy. Albert Raabstang initiated the discussion by questioning the township's leverage over CenterPoint, particularly in light of potential hurricane threats. He emphasized the need for clarity on CenterPoint's execution and emergency plans to ensure community safety.

Nancy Harrell, a long-time resident, echoed these concerns, highlighting her frustration with frequent power outages—four times in the current year alone. She pointed out that Creekside Park, being the only village in Harris County under the CenterPoint grid, faces unique challenges. Harrell urged the township to take proactive measures to address these energy issues.

Stuart Hirsch also contributed to the dialogue, noting that despite recent repairs, some areas in Creekside Park remain without power. He specifically mentioned unresolved issues with an open switch on a utility pole, which has not been addressed following the repairs.

The discussions underscored a pressing need for improved communication and action between The Woodlands Township and CenterPoint Energy to enhance the reliability of power services for residents, especially as the region braces for potential severe weather events. The board acknowledged the importance of these concerns and committed to addressing them in future agenda items.
