Local officials debate off-road racetrack amid community concerns

In a recent government meeting, officials discussed a proposed off-road racetrack in Vicksburg, Arizona, during a public hearing for Docket Cup 20240. The property owners, Brian Holden and Chester Mason, are seeking a conditional use permit (CUP) for the track located at 42375 Vicksburg Road.

The proposal received a favorable recommendation from the planning and zoning commission, passing with a 5-1 vote on June 6. However, further studies requested by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) and other agencies remain incomplete, prompting officials to consider tabling the item for additional information.

During the meeting, it was noted that public notices were adequately disseminated, with signs posted around the property and announcements made in local publications. Despite the support for the racetrack, evidenced by over 100 letters of endorsement, the proposal has faced some opposition, with eight complaints from neighboring properties.

Officials emphasized the importance of gathering all necessary data before making a final decision, ensuring that community concerns are addressed. The public hearing will continue as officials seek to balance the interests of the property owners with those of local residents.
